Heintzman & Co. is a leading Canadian piano manufacturer, founded in Toronto, Ontario, in 1866 by Theodor August Heintzman. He is a Berlin-born artist who moved to Canada in 1860 after a brief stay in New York. While it remains uncertain whether Heintzman worked in the same Berlin piano factory as Henry E. Steinway, who founded Steinway & Sons and also emigrated from Germany, this comparison is often drawn between the two firms’ instruments.

Upon his arrival in Toronto, Heintzman began crafting pianos in his home, initially using his kitchen as a workspace. Subsequently, he established his first factory on Duke St. and later relocated to King St., where he annually produced over 60 pianos. In 1899, he passed away, and his sons took over control of the company.
